Framing Days 1-3

On this week's agenda:  Finish basement framing, grading, 1st floor joists, begin main level framing, make a decision about front doors!

Weatherproofing and Basement floors

The weatherproofing of the basement walls began with a what looked like a bad episode from Nickelodeon.  We had been SLIMED!  Thick, green goo all over the concrete!  Mom ran by before the paper was covering and snapped some pictures on her camera.  I'll have to come back and add them! 

After we passed inspection for plumbing, the pipes were covered and marked.  The orange stakes in the next pictures are markings for load-bearing walls in the basement.

Our flat work guys came Monday and spread gravel and dug out for load-bearing walls. 

They poured our basement floors Tuesday (June 22). 

This jut-out section will be the keeping room off the kitchen (but on the main level).

This "dirt section" will eventually be the covered porch.

Office/Bath and Master Suite Side

The wall design caused us to create a completely concrete-walled room in the basement.  It was suggested to us to keep it clear for an emergency shelter.  Not that we have that much severe weather in Spartanburg, but it's always good to be prepared!

The only shelter we needed that day was from the heat!  Heat index was 100 degrees!  I'm hiding in the shade, David doesn't seem too concerned about the intense, melting, scorching heat!

David took some time off Wednesday morning to attend the FRAMING KICK-OFF!  Jeremy and the boys were there bright and early Wednesday morning (June 23).  When we stopped by in the afternoon, we were amazed at what they had accomplished!  Things are happening much quicker than we anticipated!  Jeremy's framing team will work the remainder of this week and Trey will come on Saturday to back-fill and grade.  In the meantime, David leaves early every morning to stop by the lot on the way to Cryovac.  He tries to take a trip over there during lunch, and then goes straight there after work.  I've spent lots of time the last two days making sure the doors swing out or in the right directions and planning for lighting.  Do you think 35 recessed lights is a bit much?  It's so hard to tell in an imaginary house!
